Nicolas Kyriakides, Executive President of the Cyprus Forum, appeared on Politis radio to discuss past Cyprus Forum Cities 2026, which took place on 24 April.
The dialogue focused on the findings of the second annual IMR survey, which was presented during the forum, measuring the citizens’ perceptions of local government. According to Nicolas, municipalities enjoy significantly higher trust and satisfaction levels than the new District Local Government Organisations (EOA-s). While two‑thirds of citizens trust their municipality, only 41% trust the EOA-s, whose image has worsened since last year. Citizens’ main expectations from EOA-s concern faster procedures, better information, and reduced bureaucracy, while the most pressing local problems remain road conditions, cleanliness, and traffic. Although some EOA presidents reported early improvements and efforts to build a more professional internal culture, Mr. Kyriakides noted that the reform has not yet delivered the expected results.
