Press Conference for Cyprus Forum 2025
The press conference for the forthcoming Cyprus Forum 2025 was successfully held today, Wednesday 24 September 2025, at the Stelios Foundation in Nicosia. The event brought together journalists and media representatives, providing details about the programme and the objectives of this year’s forum.
The Cyprus Forum 2025, taking place from 1 to 3 October, will convene leading politicians, academics, business leaders and representatives of civil society to discuss the major challenges facing Cyprus, Europe and the wider region. This year’s forum will address issues such as democratic resilience, the energy transition, Cyprus’s European perspective, tackling corruption, and international geopolitical balances. During the press conference, the organisers presented this year’s theme, aims and activities.
Georgina Athanasiou, Chair of the Board of Directors of Oxygen for Democracy, referred to the main themes and issues to be discussed at this year’s Cyprus Forum, including democratic resilience, foreign policy and social cohesion, amongst others.
Nicolas Kyriakides, Executive President of the Cyprus Forum, underlined the importance of dialogue in strengthening democracy, to which the Cyprus Forum contributes. He also highlighted, amongst other points, the expansion of the Cyprus Forum’s network of events across Europe and beyond, particularly in light of Cyprus’s forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU.
George Isaia, Executive Director of Oxygen for Democracy, presented the organisation’s upcoming initiatives, which include the Members of Parliament Evaluation Index, the political magazine Policypress, a working visit to the Hellenic Parliament—where good practices in public consultation will be presented and exchanged—bicommuncal consultations in Cyprus, and the establishment of the Advisory Committee supporting the organisation’s work.
The conference emphasised the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing contemporary challenges and reaffirmed the anticipated momentum of Cyprus Forum 2025, which is expected to serve as a vibrant hub of ideas, debate and initiatives.
Next week, Nicosia is once again expected to be transformed into a centre for dialogue on democracy, sustainable development and peace.
