Cyprus Forum Statement
For years, and under far more difficult circumstances, Cyprus Forum has shown how committed it is to keeping dialogue between the two communities open, including on difficult issues that nobody was discussing publicly. In each of the past two years, Mr Prountzos and Mr Harmancı appeared together at the Forum and sent very important messages.
This year, a statement by a political party called on us to withdraw our invitation to Mr Harmancı. That was never going to happen. We did find, however, that the title listed for him in the non-final agenda posted on the conference website, which is based on information provided by the speakers themselves, is not accepted by the Greek Cypriot side. We then used the title that had been used at recent meetings between Mr Prountzos and Mr Harmancı, and immediately contacted both of them to resolve any issue regarding the title.
We subsequently received a letter from Mr Harmancı informing us that he was withdrawing from the ceremony. Today we also received a letter from Mr Prountzos informing us that he is withdrawing as well, as a sign of solidarity. We understand and respect the decision of both.
For the third consecutive year, the Peace and Democracy Award will be presented to one Greek Cypriot and one Turkish Cypriot for their contribution to peace and democracy. The awards, which are given posthumously, will be presented by the organisers to representatives of the awardees.
We thank the 220 speakers who will take part in more than 50 discussions on a wide range of political topics, and we hope that useful proposals will come out of them.
Our door remains open. We will continue to encourage all sides to sit at the same table on every difficult issue and to look for solutions.
We apologise if our actions have set back bicommunal cooperation, which we deeply believe in. We will continue to work in the same direction with even greater determination.

Το Cyprus Forum έχει δείξει εδώ και χρόνια, και σε πολύ πιο δύσκολες συνθήκες, πόσο επιμένει να κρατά ανοιχτό τον διάλογο ανάμεσα στις δύο κοινότητες, ακόμη και σε δύσκολα θέματα που κανείς δεν συζητούσε δημόσια. Τις δύο προηγούμενες χρονιές, ο κ. Προύντζος και ο κ. Χαρμαντζί βρέθηκαν μαζί στο Φόρουμ και έστειλαν πολύ σημαντικά μηνύματα.
Φέτος, ανακοίνωση πολιτικού κόμματος μάς καλούσε να ανακαλέσουμε την πρόσκληση προς τον κ. Χαρμαντζί. Κάτι τέτοιο δεν θα γινόταν σε καμία περίπτωση. Διαπιστώσαμε όμως ότι ο τίτλος που αναγραφόταν στη μη τελική ατζέντα του φετινού συνεδρίου, όπως αυτή ήταν αναρτημένη στην ιστοσελίδα μας και όπως προέκυπτε από τα στοιχεία που δίνουν οι ίδιοι οι ομιλητές, δεν είναι αποδεκτός από την ελληνοκυπριακή πλευρά. Χρησιμοποιήσαμε τότε τον τίτλο που χρησιμοποιήθηκε σε πρόσφατες συναντήσεις των κ. Προύντζου και Χαρμαντζί, και απευθυνθήκαμε αμέσως και στους δύο για να επιλυθεί οποιοδήποτε ζήτημα σχετικά με τον τίτλο.
Στη συνέχεια λάβαμε επιστολή από τον κ. Χαρμαντζί ότι αποσύρεται από την τελετή. Σήμερα λάβαμε επιστολή και από τον κ. Προύντζο ότι αποσύρεται και ο ίδιος, σε ένδειξη συμπαράστασης. Κατανοούμε και σεβόμαστε την απόφαση και των δύο.
Η απονομή του Βραβείου Ειρήνης και Δημοκρατίας, για τρίτη συνεχόμενη χρονιά, σε έναν Ελληνοκύπριο και έναν Τουρκοκύπριο για την προσφορά τους στην ειρήνη και τη δημοκρατία θα γίνει κανονικά. Τα βραβεία, που απονέμονται μετά θάνατον, θα παραδοθούν από τους διοργανωτές στους εκπροσώπους των βραβευθέντων.
Ευχαριστούμε τους 220 ομιλητές που θα δώσουν το παρόν τους σε περισσότερες από 50 συζητήσεις, σε ένα ευρύ φάσμα πολιτικών θεμάτων, και ελπίζουμε να προκύψουν χρήσιμες εισηγήσεις.
Η πόρτα μας μένει ανοιχτή. Θα συνεχίσουμε να ενθαρρύνουμε όλες τις πλευρές να κάθονται στο ίδιο τραπέζι για όλα τα δύσκολα θέματα και να αναζητούν λύσεις.
Ζητούμε συγγνώμη αν οι δικές μας ενέργειες έφεραν ένα βήμα πίσω τη δικοινοτική συνεργασία, στην οποία πιστεύουμε βαθύτατα. Θα συνεχίσουμε να εργαζόμαστε προς την ίδια κατεύθυνση με ακόμη μεγαλύτερο ζήλο.

Cyprus Forum Açıklaması
Cyprus Forum, yıllardır ve çok daha zor koşullarda, iki toplum arasındaki diyaloğu açık tutmakta ne kadar kararlı olduğunu, kimsenin kamuoyu önünde tartışmadığı zor konularda bile göstermiştir. Son iki yılda Sayın Prountzos ve Sayın Harmancı Forum’da bir araya gelmiş ve çok önemli mesajlar vermiştir.
Bu yıl bir siyasi partinin açıklaması, Sayın Harmancı’ya yaptığımız davetin geri çekilmesini talep etti. Böyle bir şey hiçbir şekilde söz konusu değildi. Ancak konferansın internet sitesinde yayımlanan ve nihai olmayan programda yer alan, konuşmacıların kendi verdikleri bilgilere dayanan ünvanın Kıbrıslı Rum taraflarca kabul edilen bir ünvan olmadığını tespit ettik. Bunun üzerine Sayın Prountzos ile Sayın Harmancı’nın son görüşmelerinde kullanılan ünvanı kullandık ve ünvanla ilgili her türlü meselenin çözülmesi için derhal her ikisine de başvurduk.
Ardından Sayın Harmancı’dan törenden çekildiğini bildiren bir mektup aldık. Bugün de Sayın Prountzos’tan, dayanışma göstergesi olarak kendisinin de çekildiğini bildiren bir mektup aldık. Her ikisinin de kararını anlıyor ve saygıyla karşılıyoruz.
Barış ve Demokrasi Ödülü, üst üste üçüncü yıl, barışa ve demokrasiye katkılarından dolayı bir Kıbrıslı Rum’a ve bir Kıbrıslı Türk’e verilecektir. Vefat sonrası onurlandırmak amacıyla verilen bu ödüller, organizatörler tarafından ödül sahiplerinin temsilcilerine takdim edilecektir.
Geniş bir siyasi gündemde 50’yi aşkın oturum ve tartıșmada yer alacak 220 konuşmacımıza teşekkür ediyor, bu tartışmalardan faydalı önerilerin çıkmasını umuyoruz.
Kapımız açık kalmaya devam ediyor. Tüm tarafları, tüm zor konularda aynı masaya oturmaya ve çözüm aramaya teşvik etmeyi sürdüreceğiz.
Kendi eylemlerimiz, derinden inandığımız iki toplumlu işbirliğini bir adım geriye götürdüyse özür dileriz. Aynı yönde, çok daha büyük bir kararlılıkla çalışmaya devam edeceğiz.
